Flipside's Bios Page

Just like it takes the right combination of notes to make up great music, it takes the right blend of voices to make that music come alive! These folks had already been singing all over Southern California for many years when they decided to get together and pool their talents into one great sound. With a wide range of musical styles and a passion for those tight vocal harmonies, this group makes for a diverse, exciting, and extremely enjoyable acappella experience.

Colleen discovered early on that she couldn't play piano and sing at the same time. So singing it was! Always a soprano (and occasional last minute alto "switch-hitter" in college), Colleen has been singing in choral groups and small ensembles since grade school. It was in high school that she first heard Manhattan Transfer and knew that vocal jazz was "it". But then she had her first taste of acappella with Take 6 in college and that was all they wrote!

kk bio picKenny
It wasn't until after his 30th birthday and several years playing guitar and banjo that Kenny found his voice (with some help from a very talented group of singers from the vocal jazz choir at Rancho Santiago College in So. California). Since then, he's cultivated his talent, his ear, and his passion for acappella music and shared stage and studio with a wide variety of artists and musicians.
He's lent his 'dulcet bass voice' (as The King Sisters' Marilyn King once put it) to several acappella groups since he started singing but says THIS group, Flipside, is where he's been headed from the start. And when the other members of the group aren't around to sing with, he's prob'ly busy arranging something or programming something or just playing around on the guitar, banjo, or bass.

lc bio picLinda
Linda began entertaining audiences at the age of three when her Daddy brought her onstage to call square dances with him. She credits her complete lack of stage fright and love of performing to those early experiences. A music-lover from the start, she studied piano and voice throughout her childhood. She is a proud graduate of the USC School of Music (go Trojans!) where she became an accomplished classical pianist and vocalist. During her college years she was happily employed by a singing telegram service, composing and singing customized songs for special occasions. Since then she has written and performed countless personalized song parodies for birthdays, anniversaries and retirement parties.
She was a member of the L.A. Jazz Choir when their album "Listen!" was nominated for a Grammy Award. Most recently, you may have heard her singing alto with the Vocal Magic jazz singers. Now retired from her career as a human resources professional, she enjoys silk painting, gardening and spending time with her husband Monte.
When Linda is not performing with Flipside, you may find her at home enjoying her newest musical adventure, the banjo!

jw bio picJay
Jay started singing in junior high school. He recalls one of his first shows at the local mall with that group as being a huge smash and decided, right then and there, that he needed to continue singing at malls forever. After all the Orange Julius employees got tired of hearing him, they persuaded him to move on.
In High School, he learned about vocal jazz and barbershop and got bitten by the A Cappella bug. His pursuit led him to inspiration that he found from The Bobs, Rockapella, M-Pact, and Da Vinci's Notebook. He has paid homage to some of his songwriting idols like the Beatles and Paul Simon by arranging a few of their songs.
Having been a part of several different a cappella bands over the years, Jay is very excited to be singing with Flipside: 'This configuration of voices lies right in the 'sweet spot' of vocal harmonies. I can't wait to push the a cappella envelope even further to see (and hear) what happens next!'

Thank You!

Each of us would like to offer our sincere appreciation to anyone with whom we've ever sung or shared a stage or studio. After all, it's a cappella... we couldn't have done it without you.
